WATERLOO, ONT., May 12, 2021 — The Canadian Shield, Waterloo Region-based medical device manufacturer, announces the donation of thousands of face shields to the City of Waterloo and the local business community — helping those who remain open amidst current lockdown restrictions to continue providing essential services. The donation, facilitated by the City of Waterloo department of Economic Development, aims to protect and support essential workers and businesses as they push through this challenging stretch of operations and remain committed to serving the community.
“We wouldn’t be where we are today without the Waterloo Region community and this is one way for us to return that favour,” said Jeremy Hedges, The Canadian Shield Founder and CEO. “This donation is a message to our local business community that we have them covered — so they can focus less on securing PPE, and more on regular business operations.”
Since the onset of the pandemic, business owners have relied on The Canadian Shield’s face shields to help them take the proper precautions to ensure that their employees and customers are adequately protected. Designed for comfortable, all day wear, the Shield can be disinfected and used 15+ times with proper sanitation. The face shields will be distributed to local businesses across the City of Waterloo this month.
“Even with the increasing vaccine rollout it is still incredibly important to keep staying vigilant and safe. Many in the healthcare fields and some of our Waterloo businesses who are still working in-person are recommended to wear eye protection as they continue to provide essential services, said Justin McFadden, Director of Economic Development, City of Waterloo. “This generous donation helps those businesses push through this challenging stretch and ensures they are able to stay safe as they conduct their work. It is great to see how local businesses have come together to help each other out and we are happy to be a connector.”
Over the past year, The Canadian Shield has prioritized community initiatives and has made an active effort to donate millions of masks to frontline workers across the country, in addition to fulfilling various contracts with government bodies and health authorities.
The manufacturer understands firsthand the importance of adapting and ensuring job security during times of uncertainty. At a time when COVID-19 continues to affect most aspects of society, The Canadian Shield is committed to supporting businesses and frontline workers nationwide. This donation will ensure that local businesses are supported in their efforts to continue operations with safety in mind for all.
Today, The Canadian Shield is one of the largest manufacturers of medical-grade face shields and ASTM procedural face masks in the country. The company’s success over the past year has enabled them to heavily invest in IP and automation with the vision of building a sustainable medical device manufacturing industry in Canada. The Canadian Shield is continuously investing to become a world leader in medical equipment design and manufacturing and will continue to prioritize community initiatives locally, domestically and internationally to help in the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Local businesses can book an appointment to pick up face shields via curbside pickup through the City of Waterloo’s online calendar.
