“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you,” says Fred Devito when he inspires his inspires his students to push their boundaries in and out of the gym. Well, we agree. The Business & Education Partnership can’t think of a better way to describe how the ZOOM Challenge Day impacts high school students and Waterloo’s tech companies.

ZOOM Challenge Day is an opportunity that pairs a student with a team member at a local tech company. The student then works with the company to complete a real life challenge or problem it’s currently facing. At the end of this exercise, students prepare and present a two-to five-minute presentation about their solution and recommendations to the company.

ZOOM Challenge Day gives students the chance to engage with their community and learn what companies around the region are doing to change and grow in Canada. These workshops help build a highly skilled workforce for Waterloo Region by providing students with an opportunity to work on projects that will have a direct impact on each company. The students aren’t the only winners though, ZOOM Challenge Day also provides companies with the opportunity to influence  future employees (and possibly gain a high school co-op for a semester).

Our next ZOOM Challenge Day is on April 9, 2014 and open to schools from the Waterloo Region District School Board. Interested companies should contact Karen Klink for more information.
