Improving Long-term Care in Canada

The CAN Health Long-Term Care Innovation and Scaling Network, powered by Bruyère, is an initiative designed to enhance the quality of life for long-term care (LTC) residents and operators by scaling Canadian-made technology solutions.

Canada's long-term care homes face a variety of challenges in their collective efforts to provide dignified, quality care to the residents they serve. Along with innovators, leaders and changemakers in long-term care (LTC) across the country, the following five challenges emerged as top priorities for LTC homes seeking innovative solutions:

Challenge: Addressing staffing shortages

Long-term care (LTC) homes are grappling with persistent staffing shortages, recruitment difficulties, and HR management complexities. We are seeking innovative solutions that have a track record of responding to the staffing crisis within LTC homes.

Challenge: Reducing resident falls

Reducing and preventing resident falls is an ongoing challenge in LTC. We invite startups to present solutions that can significantly reduce the incidence of falls among residents.

Challenge: Resident quality of life and recreation programs

Resident quality of life is a priority for LTC homes across Canada. We are seeking solutions that have demonstrated an improvement in quality of life through reimagined resident engagement and recreation programs that elevate the LTC experience.

Challenge: Reducing resident pressure injuries

Reducing, preventing and treating resident pressure injuries is an ongoing challenge. We invite solutions that can reduce, prevent the development of or better treat resident pressure injuries amongst LTC residents.

Challenge: Supporting residents with dementia

We are seeking technologies that can support LTC residents living with dementia, to allow for increased autonomy and safety.
